Hamirpur Leather handicraft producer Company Limited was established under the aegis of O/o development commissioner handicraft (Ministry of textiles Government of India) in 10/05/2023 based at Hamirpur District. Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh is located on National Highway 86 and has a total area of 4,121.9 square kilometers. It is bordered by the districts of Jalaun, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Jalaun. The Yamuna and Betwa rivers meet in Hamirpur, and the Betwa's banks are home to coarse sand that is exported across Uttar Pradesh. As of 2011, Hamirpur was the third least populated district in Uttar Pradesh, with a population of 1,042,374 in 2001. The main languages spoken in Hamirpur are Hindi, Bundeli, and Urdu. Leather ware craft is famous in Hamirpur and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. The leather industry thrives here and goods are exported all across the state. It is considered to be one of the main Crafts of Uttar Pradesh. Sumerpur is 18 km away from Hamirpur, famous for its handicraft handmade leather shoes (Juti) industry. These handmade leather shoes are popular among the Bundelkhand & different parts of the country. They are collectively located beside the National Highway, NH86, passing through the centre of Sumerpur town. The Britishers have developed Kanpur as an Industrial hub for the production of leather, attracting the artisans in Hamirpur to start up Juti production units at Sumerpur. People from Haryana and Rajasthan came to this place, along with some from Peshawar and Lahore. They initiated Juti Manufacturing in 1952 with about200-250 artisans. Currently, there are around 200 artisans in the cluster, including household workers and females. This is their third generation who are continuously engaged in the handicraft leather shoes (Juti) production. During baseline survey we have identified all such artisans with support of O/o development commissioner handicraft and providing them all kind of technical, marketing support etc. to uplift their livelihood.
